Thanks for the clarification!

Maybe you know this too...if Obama ends enforcement of DADT by executive order, what happens if the next president wants to enforce it again? I can see the argument that it might be politically very difficult to reverse the decision once there are hundreds (thousands?)of gay and lesbian soldiers serving openly and several more years of progress under our belts, but political climate is hard to predict years in advance. I think Obama could reasonably worry that ending or relaxing enforcement now would be setting people up to be targeted later. And maybe that would still be better than the status quo, but it would definitely be a hard call.Kerryhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07394019906538116160noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8071172910566496249.post-83263759312250044382010-09-29T17:07:57.567-07:002010-09-29T17:07:57.567-07:00Technically 40 Republican Senators voted No, 1 Rep...Technically 40 Republican Senators voted No, 1 Republican Senator didn't vote, 54 Democratic Senators voted Yes, 2 Independents voted Yes, and 3 Democrats voted No. Because of the rules of the Senate, Harry Reid had to change his vote to No on the DADT repeal because that allows him reintroduce the legislation at a later date.

You really can't blame Obama for Senate rules and the "filibuster", however he still could use an executive order to stop the enforcement of DADT. I'm hoping he will do so before the election, but who knows.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
